Nostalgia KRS-2100 Keg-O-Rator Refrigerated Beverage Keg Dispenser

Nostalgia KRS-2100 Keg-O-Rator Refrigerated Beverage Keg Dispenser

For starters, stop reading reviews prior to 2011. The first issues with this kegerator have been addressed to the point Nostalgia should assign it new number. As reported by others the regulator is now a pretty nice dual gauge unit, having a lockable output valve. Meaning once you get your CO2 settings dialed in you can lock the knob so it doesn’t get changed accidentally while changing out a keg, etc. Also, the unit is dead quiet.

The instructions have been completely revamped and are very easy to follow. All the spare parts provided happen to be labeled within the manual, no mysteries there either. Before arrived I downloaded a PDF copy from the old instructions, and it is true the early buyers were basically left in the dark.

I followed the instructions, charged my tank, threw in a 1/4 barrel, and no problems whatsoever. The beer includes a perfect head on it, and my monitoring of temps happen to be hovering around 34-35f. That’s with the thermostat set to maximum, so I’ll be watching that closely. I’m not going my beer to freeze!

A few things to note:

1) The keg tower rubber washer (#5) wasn’t already installed, and is not really mentioned within the manual. Be sure to install it otherwise there’s not a tight seal between the tower and fridge and cool air will escape. You’ll know if it’s not on since the tower installs too easy and doesn’t feel tight. The excellent side effect of this design is that the tower is actually cooled, so less stale beer within the line.

2) A 5 pound CO2 tank will match a full 1/2 barrel, and can be bought at a local gas supply or welding shop filled for around 50 bucks. Refills around the tank remain $9. The 2.5 pound tank shipped is okay, and I’ll be filling it and so i have a full tank at all times. The 2.5 pound tank will be able to dispense 2-4 1/2 barrel kegs, the 5 pound tank 4-8 1/2 barrel kegs. Tighter fittings, lower CO2 settings, more kegs…

3) The casters are optional, there are already self leveling feet installed if (much like me) you prefer the unit to be shorter and stationary. Height to the top of the fridge door is precisely 31 inches with no caster installed.

Anyway, given all the features and the insane cost of $380 shipped I can not see how anyone might be unhappy at this time. All the negative reviews helped me really ponder this purchase, but As it turned out they’re all referring to a different product. I’ll post a follow up at 12 months, or before basically experience any problems.

And due to the early buyers who posted reviews! Nostalgia listened and due to you I have a really nice unit.

Haier HBF05EBSS Draft Beer Dispenser

Haier HBF05EBSS Draft Beer Dispenser

It was ‘ignaugurated’ in a party I hosted, and also the 5 gal keg didn’t last long! (Of course, it was a good beer…locally brewed Pacific Coast Emerald Ale.)

Be prepared: After it’s setup and you have had people over, you will be QUITE popular! Expect comments like “I’m likely to be over at your home every afternoon.” Haier America should realize their best marketing ploy is satisfied customers. I’ve been with them two weeks and Haier may be selling 3 additional units soon.

OK, what exactly about the product rating, particularly in light of all of the negative comments provided earlier? Well, here’s my take on it:

- Setup was quite simple, if you discount the fact that one part was missing (see below).
- Quality
seems to be adequate. They use quality parts, e.g., the CO2 regulator and dispensing valve.
- It’s keeping my second (post party) keg perfectly chilled and pressurized. (
Because the first keg only lasted hrs, we can’t base much judgement on that.)
- It’s wonderful
in the future home to a fresh, draft beer!
-
Finding a place to refill the CO2 canister can be difficult. Most commercial places is only going to exchange (take your completely new canister and provide you with a used, filled canister). I finally found a fireplace extinguisher service that does refills after making MANY calls.

Performs this make it perfect? Hardly.

My experience confirms that Haier America has poor customer support. I purcased the system a week prior to a party I had been hosting. After you have it home and configuring it, I realized (according to the manual) it was missing the washer that goes between your CO2 tank and also the regulator. I called Haier customer service the following morning and was shocked because when they treated me. The basic tone of the response was “tough luck.” I’d have to follow their procedures that have been: 1) fax or send via US mail my purchase receipt 2) Allow them two working days from their receipt of the to get back to me 3) After doing a ‘confirmation’ they would send me the washer within fourteen days.

I was irate and said excitedly so! I had purchased the system specifically for my upcoming party and today would not be able to use it! Their reponse: “These are our procedures.”

Used to do two things following this:
1) I located
the maker of the CO2 regulator and contacted them concerning the possibility of getting a washer. They informed me the regulator was redesigned and did not need a washer. Haier was supposed to include an update using their user manual (they did not, and customer support obviously wasn’t aware of this change).
2) I located
info on Haier America and faxed their CEO an scathing letter telling him what I thought about spending $500 for something and not being able to use it at the function I bought it for! Lo and behold, the next day I received a phone call from their corporate offices saying they would be overnighting me the missing washer. I explained I had learned it wasn’t needed, but the woman calling me wasn’t taking any chances. She overnighted it in my experience anyway. Moral of the story: Make your voice heard when you recieve bad service.

EdgeStar Beer Dispenser Kegerator Refrigerator

EdgeStar Beer Dispenser Kegerator Refrigerator

Very nice addition to the “man cave”.
Good:
-Relatively
easy to assemble
-provides a CO2 canister

Bad:
-Metal siding feels cheap and loose
-the tap
at the top of the kegerator is loose and flimsy. It feels cheap…almost like it will break after a few uses.
-keg
doesn’t sit properly within the kegerator for some strange reason and does not allow the door to fully close. Quite simply…the kegerator doesn’t do a excellent job of keeping a keg closed (which to me is the main purpose of a kegerator)

Cuts the cost of beer by close to half in comparison with buying by case I purchased this product for my fiance for Christmas. It was shiped promptly and received fine. I purchased this particular product because it was highly rated for several reasons: customer service from the manufacturer as well as premium function. Unfortunately, fundamental essentials two main issues wrong using the product with my case. We opened up and assembled it. The spring in the handle on the coupler was broken, so when my fiance visited push down on it after retracting it (a “metal” part on the inside should have retracted with the handle) the interior locking mechanism broke off. It was SOOO not made of premium materials. It must be some type of composite metal (something with alluminum). When we contacted the company, they were agressive on the phone and said we’d have to pay for any new coupler (with similar crap materials). We said no thanks… instead, the company from whom I bought it was prepared to replace the part free of charge. THAT was good customer support.

Negatives:
-I
would not buy the product and be prepared to be helped beyond having it delivered to your door (from Edgestar atleast).
-Expect really really really crappy materials.
-Directions are contradictory regarding
use of CO2 tank and direction of valve handle.
-Not cold enough.

Positives:
-Fridge fits sixtills (spelling wrong) and half kegs perfectly.
-BEER!

Durafied® Keg Fridge Cooler

Durafied® Keg Fridge Cooler

I recieved this beer cooler on time and in perfect condition. 1st keg tell you it went ok, but had problems tuning the regulator for best flow. Despite the provided allen wrench to “lock” the pressure the regulator still seemed to keep pressurizing the keg above where I’d it set. Bought the next keg, and suddenly the coupler wouldn’t crank fully down on the keg. The coupler supplied with the unit was made of some cheap soft alloy, and the new keg gouged into it before it would seat all the way. Tried several fixes, but still ended up replacing it with a stainless steel one found online for about 30 bucks. Didn’t bother trying to warranty the coupler because I am certain it would been replaced with another cheaply made unit, and didn’t want to bother. I additionally ended up replacing the regulator having a nicer one, and now works flawlessly. The refridgerator keeps my keg at a perfect 37 to 38 degrees, and the casters make it portable that is very nice. Wish it might have come having a bigger CO2 bottle too, the 2.5 lb container sent by using it just managed to get through the 2nd keg with not alot to spare. A part of that was because I’d to tweak that old regulator so much, and lost lots of pressure that way, but a 5 lb cylinder would have been much nicer.I use it all the time and it really has saved me time and expense.

I will be using it in my college house and definitely bringing it with me anywhere Time passes after that, since it looks amazing and it is easy to move.

Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser

Keggermeister KM2800BK Kegerator Full-Size Single-Tap Beer Refrigerator and Dispenser

The Keggermeister Kegerator comes packaged in double “double walled” boxes with many different Styrofoam packaging materials and materials. All the minor components are neatly organized inside a separate box within the Kegerator fridge. After removing all of the pieces and laying them out, I began to read the instruction manual. The manual content is very clear and concise with well illustrated pictures on the assembly from the unit and pieces. The box was undamaged in shipping
Assembly
is fairly simple, a person with basic knowledge of hand tools shouldn’t have any problem. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to get it put together and running, the one thing I would advise any owner is to take your time and learn the pieces of the dispensing system while you assemble it. This is critical to understand how everything works to become able to trouble shoot any issues should they arise.
The unit comes with a 2.5lb C02 tank that I was able to get filled up for less than ten bucks. I suggest a local paint ball shop being that they are better equipped to fill this size tanks up. Welding supply shops also work.
Once
things are assembled and it was plugged in it turned directly on and gave a silent hum as though to let me know it was on. Even with the compressor cycling on and off it still keeps a very minimal noise level.

After allowing the refrigerator to operate with no keg inside it for 24 hours I decided to give it an evaluation drive. The first keg used was a Full Keg of Budlight. After letting the Keg sit and cool in the Kegerator for an additional 24 hours it was time for the first pour which resulted in nothing but foam. After doing a bit of trouble shooting I realized I’d opened the valve on the C02 tank completely for max flow. This led to over pressurizing the keg. To repair this I closed the valve and adjusted the regulator to using it near closed. I then pulled pressure release pin on the coupler releasing the developed C02 in the keg. The next glass I poured arrived on the scene perfectly – pure golden bliss with a decent layer of foam.

About 40 minutes layer I tried to fill a pitcher of beer and was presented with a near perfect pour. It was more than enough of evidence there was a consistent pressure and was at an optimal level for consistent pouring.
The outside has a nice black matte finished that goes well with any décor. The chrome guardrail and stainless steel spout add a nice touch to the overall outside of the unit. Cleanup is simple and was simple with just a bit of standard surface cleaner. I was also able to change out the tap handle with a standard Brewing Company handle.

Keg’s which have been run through this unit: Pyramid Hefeweizen, Budlight, Budweiser, Dos Equis

Summit SBC500B 24 Freestanding Full Keg Beer Dispenser with Manual Defrost

Summit SBC500B 24 Freestanding Full Keg Beer Dispenser with Manual Defrost

Have owned this product since 2002. Works great and never had any issues with it. Only drawback does not come with a built-in drain (most don’t). I got myself one separately and cut a hole and added the one that drains right into a plastic milk gallon jug that is easy to empty and/or replace. I’m able to easily roll it to where the party is via the casters. I have tried personally it outside in the summer out on my deck during BBQ’s and my guests love it. Be aware that this keg dispenser (as with most that you will find) comes with an American sankey (fits 95% of beer manufactured in the US) which isn’t compatible with most European beers. So you will have to buy a separate sankey at approx. $35.00.Overall very pleased using the summit keg dispenser. It came delivered to my house in excellent condition and also the driver helped unpack it and inspect for just about any damage, none was found. Unit was easy to put together, needed to put the wheels on and assemble the spout. I’ve been with them for a month or so and it works great! A bit more than I needed to pay but it seems to be worthwhile. You have to be careful to achieve the correct pressure (co2) or it may be over carbonated but with some minor adjusting you can find the sweet spot. To date so good! Wheels mean that it’s easily moved. This is comparable to the Sanyo version (made in the same plant) just labeled having a Summit Tag. Sanyo products are also dependable.
I question the numbers
within the description. The C02 should be “12″ to “14″ instead of “10″. The temperature should be 36 – 38 degrees. Sam Adams recommends 38 degrees which is colder than something that you can find in a bar. Because the gauge isn’t percise, flirting with 32 degrees sounds appealing however, you could encounter problems with ice chips, frozen keg or wild keg (too foamy).
If possible, upgrade the CO2 gauge. The main one provided is just one gauge, which shows pressure on the keg. A double gauge would also provide you with whats left in the CO2 tank. The only guage works fine if you’re on a budget

Positive
I bought this kegerator for my boyfriend for Christmas and it is exceeded both our expectations. The kegerator is sleek and stylish and matches great within our living room. We’re now the place where all of our friends want to go- no more hanging out at local bars spending money on overpriced beer whenever we can experience this at home! We got the D system coupler for Fat Tire and an S coupler for New Castle and Stella. The only bummer is we can not have two import kegs inside at the same time but that is not a problem. Overall, we’re really pleased with our new “toy” and I’m really happy with the service provided so far with Beverage Factory! A+++!!!
Negative
I would not recommend Haier kegerator, if you don’t like warm beer. I place it to it’s coldest setting turn it on for a day and also the coldest it got was to 46 degrees Fahrenheit. As you know there’s nothing better than warm beer. The truly bad part of this is my wife ask me things i wanted for xmas, and that i said I wanted a Danby kegerator it came highly recommended by a close friend. When she called “Beverage Factory” i was told that that Danby includes a problem getting cold enough to get the beer to it’s coldest optimal temperature. They highly recommended Haier, but if you read between your lines what there really saying is that they get there most optimal profits selling haier. I additionally don’t recommend the beverage factory. They never ask what kind of beer that you want to drink and that different beers have various kinds of couplers. So they just send from the standard American coupler. This doesn’t work for Imported beers. Just bad all around, not to mention I probably lost a keg of Bass. The beer Gods are going to be very, very upset. “Don’t purchase from Beverage Factory” Do not buy China Cr@p buy something thats made in the U.S. you cannot go wrong. Best of luck everybody and subsequently rounds on me!

Sanyo BC1206 Kegerator Beer Cooler

Sanyo BC1206 Kegerator Beer Cooler

I chose the Sanyo because I heard the Haier model has problems reducing below 40 degrees. This one has no problems keeping one half barrel ice cold. This can be a great looking keg cooler that comes with pretty much eveything you’ll need. The only cons would be the vinyl tube clips are cheap plastic that don’t get tight enough, and also the drip tray is also a cheap plastic tray. I immediately replaced these with metal and just bought a double regulator (it comes with a good Taprite single regulator) in order to gauge the rest of the CO2 within the tank.

Free shipping saved about $140!
The Sanyo Beer Cooler really
has no competition in it’s budget range, so they were apparently in a position to cut corners during manufacturing. First allow me to say that it dispenses draft beer, so it’ll pay for itself within 6 kegs.

But here are my complaints with it: 1. The door doesn’t close perfectly, there’s never a good seal despite trying to clean the gaskets. Which may lead to 2. It does not get cold enough. I love my beer somewhat warm, so i’t not a huge deal for me personally, but not everyone does and this can’t get cold without resulting in problem 3. The inside-back from the fridge FREEZES up. Without a keg in it (or I personally use soda kegs sometimes) the ice block gets so big there’s no method of getting a full-size keg in. Should you leave a keg in there long enough, the ice will in reality form within the keg so you need to break them back to remove keg. It is a pain.

Why did I give it 4 stars? Because there’s nothing else I can recommend for the similar price. And you get fresh DRAFT beer at 1/2 the buying price of canned or bottled and don’t have to worry about recycling or visiting the liquor store every weekend.

Great Northern Black Kegerator Beer Dispenser Refrigerator

Great Northern Black Kegerator Beer Dispenser Refrigerator

Ok, and so i just purchased this kegerator 3 weeks ago and all things have been great! There’s something you should know before purchasing that I wish someone had explained so here you decide to go:

The instructions truly are as other reviews have mentioned just a little confusing. The reason for the confusion isn’t that only are there lot’s of additional parts and pieces (which is a positive thing), many of these parts happen to be put together for you! Therefore when you read the instructions keep in mind that some of the steps happen to be completed for example: When I received the kegerator both washers that go on the keg tap, along with the plastic float and keg tap washer were already installed. These were all steps to complete in the instructions so it took me a little extra time to figure it out. Also, if you go to the DTX website you can download the instructions in color (the black and white photos that came with the kegerator are near impossible to see).

Here’s the most important thing: The instructions state that the psi on your co2 tank should read between 10-12 psi. I did this and wasted half a keg of beer blowing out foam. After speaking with a local brewmaster within knoxville I found that the 10-12 psi is perfect for home brew beer that isn’t already carbonated (instructions don’t tell you this). You need to only turn the valve up sufficient to push the beer out of the tap (around 5 psi). I keep mine at around 4-5 psi and all things have been perfect (you do have to readjust it occasionally because the keg becomes low.)

One last thing…I had no problem getting a place to fill the two.5 lb. tank. The local beverage company may not be able to but almost all welding shops and paintball stores have the ability to fill the tank. Hope this can help everyone! Had the instructions been less confusing, this thing would take about 10 min to assemble, it works great and that i don’t regret the acquisition at all. Just remember to leave it upright for 8 hrs. before plugging it in, and when you do hook it up I would wait a minimum of 12 hrs. before placing a keg in it (if you do not it becomes hard for that fridge to keep the keg below 42 degrees. Mine sits around 39 degrees at this time. Hope this helps!

Great Northern Stainless Steel Kegerator Beer Dispenser Refrigerator

Great Northern Stainless Steel Kegerator Beer Dispenser Refrigerator

Couldn’t wait for a Kegerator to arrive and when it did, I went right to the operating manual to begin setting it up. The instructions are extremely vague when it comes to hooking up the air and beer lines. It says to “insert the rubber black washer that comes with this unit, into the attachment nut on the regulator(as shown within the photo).” Well, there isn’t any black washer that matches the connector for the regulator. In fact, the connector from the regulator hose visiting the coupler is different than the connector that came on the coupler. So, tried some other washers and o-rings that included the kit. Not one of them are labled regarding where they go, but in certain cases it is obvious the small o-rings can only be mounted on certain locations. I could never keep your CO2 gas from leaking at this connection. Wound up cutting off the regulator connector visiting the coupler and installing the original connector that was on the coupler. This caused one other issue. The original coupler takes a 1/4 in inner diameter hose. The hose from the regulator is a 3/16 inch inner diameter hose. So, needed to get new tubbing plus some adapters to connect the regulator. Since i have installed the original connector to the coupler, I’ve didn’t have more gas leaks. Have to keep the regulator below the 10-12 lb. recommended pressure to reduce on the beer foaming. Based on some beer forum comments, this is often eliminated by helping the beer line towards the faucet to 10 feet instead of the supplied 5 feet. Also, with the CO2 cannister within the kegerator, the regulator gauge reading the cannister pressure reads in the red indicating time to refill the cannister. Based on the beer forum comments, this is the norm because when the gas is coller, pressure is lower. So, why have the cannister located inside vise outside the unit where you can get a more accurate reading?
